Awesome! I especially love the face in the moon. The darks give the whole picture a scary atmosphere. =]

We just bought five copies of the collected hardcovers of SCARY STORIES--one for each of my kids, and one each for me and my wife. I still read them!
Thanks so much, bud.

Wow, at first I had to check the artist's name again. This came out looking so incredibly sharp and 100% unique compared to your gallery. Beautiful piece.

...my favorite of your recent postings. Great to see you stretch---the charcoal shading is fantastic!!! How 'bout some more of this technique from you, eh...?

Excellent to see your use of wash and engagement with a different work style! You've achieved great atmospheric affect, those spiky branches and roots are a fine touch. I'm not sure if I like the face in the branches, or rather how it was done, but I need to look again at this one. It is quite a wonderful piece overall. Distribution of blacks is very pleasing (the way you did the grass is excellent). I hope to see more in this manner!

Thanks so much, bud. It felt good to break away from the rapidographs. Sorry the face didn't work for you. In retrospect, I shouldn't have had the moon behind the tree if I was going to put a face on it. Oh well.

Man ink washes give off such a good effect with liquids and give such a solid black. I really like the trees as they are very horror like in their jagged form and the moon is great with the blood dribbling down. The mysterious creature on the hill is really cool too even if you don't really good look at him. Adds to the mysterious feel.
Very cool overall.

Thanks so much for your kind words. I've done some ink wash in the past, and I always loved the way it looked. I might have to use it more in the future.

dude this jumped rite out at me in the thumb nails. awesome stuff. i can see the Stephen Gammell influence and i dont even know who he is...its odd, i know that type of work from another artists here on DA that used to do alot of drawing that were influenced by him. i should look him up.
i hope that all made sense.im a little tired.

Stephen Gammell was a HUGE influence on me insofar as me switching from wanting to be a comic book artist to a horror illustrator. I own all three of the SCARY STORIES book, and I actually just bought five copies of the hardcover collection--one for each of my kids and two for me! LOL I'd been dying to try an homage to his work for years, and this seemed the perfect time.
Thanks so much, bud. I was a little worried that this wouldn't be well received, so your words mean a ton.
Now, go get some rest...LOL
