Description Long ago, a serpent burst from the earth. Its body was immeasurably long, its teeth were harder than diamonds, and its hunger was insatiable. It encircled the entirety of Galar; trapping the people and devouring them by the hundreds. In the middle of the serpent's rampage two warriors appeared; one with an unstoppable sword, the other with an impervious shield. After battling for 49 days, the serpent was slain, causing its body to turn to stone and shatter into thousands of pieces throughout the region.

Even though the serpent's body was broken, its soul remained alive, separated among the thousands of stone slabs that were once its living form. Holding a grudge against its slayers, it sustains itself on the wandering spirits of its fallen victims, hoping to one day regenerate and destroy the duo that defeated it.

Based on the serpent pattern on Runerigus's body. The tablet attached to Galarian Yamask takes over it when evolves and Runerigis is called the Grudge Pokemon

Renerigus is interesting, but sadly I feel like you- it really was a missed opportunity

Indeed. The are so so many interesting stories behind runes that could have been used to flesh out Runerigus.

Gotta say I love the back story. Honestly I'm surprised we didn't get a pokemon somewhat based on the dragon on Runerigus slab or somewhat of a story, feels abit taxed on lore wise to me. But I do understand why it's there since runes have serpents on them

Thanks. It really seem like a missed opportunity. I definitely appreciate the reference to serpent runes though. Runerigus is one of my favorite of Gen VIII.
