There are two aspect here, which are connected to each other.
#1: Do you have to pay for the game itself?
#2. Does the objects in the shop affects the players stats?
If it's a free to play game, in game buys are nearly the only possibilty for the producers to gain money! Or do you want add allover the game? So it's acceptable for me. In games you have to buy, I only find it acceptable if it's a shop for objects which have no influence to game itself. Honestly, if someone wants to spend some money for a fancy dress without any changes in the stats of the player, it doesn't bothers me.
If the objects in the shop gives an adventage, it's also a question if you can also reach that status just by gaming (grinding). If yes, I could accept it (but still not like it) in a free to play game, but not in game you have to buy! A no way in every case are objects which gives an advantage which you can not obtain another way. A game following the slogan Free to play, but pay to win is a no way for me!

Β I've worked in the RP Games industry for over 20 years... And to be honest it was Gold Farmers killing bosses & doing insane exploits and flipping treasure who first started this trend.Β The companies went from Can't beat em - to - Join em over the decades.Β Many of the "big" game companies are also the most Clueless and completely drop the ball on this topic.Β You get a lot more politics, ego from powerful yet ignorantΒ managers, desperation, and greed in those establishments.Β Β
Have to admit I was always ok with making decor items for sale (because I like to stay employed) - but when they start to seriously molest the gameplay and culture for cash - it really puts the hate in your soul.

I'm almost 23 years old and my 19-year-old brother spends money on game stuff like no tomorrow. As for myself, I budget and pick and choose what I want to download. I just miss the old days when you didn't need to pay for everything. And I agree. I would rather put mass amounts of effort into a game than play the easy way out. Everything is too nerfed nowadays.
