So, about eight-hundred years ago, there was a man by the name of Salah ad-Din...~~~

(And off I go into my huge, long-winded, informati-- ACTION-PACKED history lesson. )

(I might as well. It shall be brief. Lo, an epic picture such as this deserves a nice historical backstory.)

Saladin is best known in the West as the Islamic ruler who fought against the Franks in the Holy Land during the Third Crusade. He was the sultan of Egypt and Syria, and (in modern-day terms) ruled over five countries. He won his way into Islamic legend by taking back Jerusalem from the Kingdom and back into Palestinian hands at the Battle of Hattin, (1187.) *BAM* He was revered as having a chivalrous nature and was even respected in the West, as well as by King Richard I of England 'the Lionhearted'.

Though...to me...Saladin and Richard are the coolest most awesome counterparts to draw/oogle about evuurrr, but that's just me.

But...yeah.

History is made so much funner with dragons. 8D Hence my epic scene here from my epic. 'Tis quite epic~~~ *slowly nods with serious faez*

Salah ad-Din doesn't play an uber major role in my epic...neither does Richard, since most of the plot happens way out in the field and in the cities...but their presence is felt. *intellectual smile* My knights and warriors do catch glimpses of the two leaders sometimes as they soar overhead on their winged beasts, but interaction is little to none.

By the time the Third Crusade rolled around, anyways, Saladin was oooold. Richard and the other two kings were young - Richard was in his twenties. Saladin probably felt like he was up against a group of school-boys!

BACK TO THE ART!!!

More lineless/etc/whatever-the-heck-you-call-it stuff/practice/work/oh-no-not-again. This was originally a sketch *not in my school notes!* that I scanned in and coloured. I'll be doing that with some other sketches, especially seeing as how my pose/wing practice has been very, very fruitful.

I think I'm getting the knack at it...

I do have a ref up for this guy - Rahal - he's just as old as Saladin... I'll also do up a personal ref for Saladin and Richard, too, just for hecks and nice sentimental pieces. ( <3 ) Whether I put them up on DA is a whole other story...in fact, I'm not sure I will...maybe a long time from now...not sure.

And I love that sky... And Saladin's all 'RAAAAAAAAAWR!!!' with his...random spear. XD

And yes, Rahal's right upper-horn is broken off.

And...lookie! Texture! Texture makes so much difference, I SWEAR. I was working with it, and I turned off the layer visibility just to see, but I had to turn it back on because I was so 'FTW.' And it...it was funny.

And...yesh.

I really, really like this.
(I'm playing in a concert tomorrow...how quaint. ^.^ )

And I should probably shut up.
(Oh, how this would make a loverly DD~~~ Yet only in one's dreams. O.o )
