I double-checked, itΒ΄s probably older as it is documented to be known to arabians in the 9th century but the term "khanda" (where the term candy might come from, in german we call this Kandiszucker) is ancient indian, means arabians got it most likely from India together with the name, how long India knows it seems unknown.
