This is a fashion illustration I've been slaving over recently. It's an entry for the "Behind the Seams" fashion contest being hosted by the band Icon for Hire. The model is the lead singer of the band, Ariel. (Pronounced R.E.L.) However, because it's a fashion illustration, she is drawn in fashion proportions. (Super tall and skinny.) Even if I don't win the contest, I want to make this dress. I would totally wear it. One of the most difficult challenges about this contest it that Ariel, who will wear the winner's design on tour, is a fashion designer herself. She has a really cool store at www.etsy.com/shop/customcatast… . But designing for a designer is probably one of the hardest things you can do. You have to incorporate their design aesthetic enough that they will like the design, but have your own design aesthetic prominent enough that they don't feel like they could have come up with it without you. (Or that you just copied them.) Anyway, I feel like I did a good job balancing those two things. (If you look up what she normally wears, you'll probably agree.) Her favorite color is hot pink. Just in case that wasn't obscenely obvious.

Anyway, you can appreciate it whether or not you're into their music.

The scalloped effect at the bottom hem es created by vertical lines of ruching. I tried to draw in ruching, but it just ended up looking weird.
