I am always lurking for people in the SCA near me. I am dying to make my own armour like you wouldn't believe and start fighting. If all goes to plan, I shall be at Ferret's Feast, so with luck perhaps I shall!

We're doing an armouring day the Sunday after FF, so if you can come out again, or sleep over Saturday night, we might be able to get you kitted out some.

A willingness to work is probably most important. For materials, I dunno, probably a ball pein hammer and some copper rivets if you can find them at your local tack store. They're kinda hard to come by these days.

I've read somewhere that if you cannot find copper rivets that you can use roofing nails and then hammer them like you would to peen a rivet. Anyways, I did buy some awhile back from Tandy Leather, but not very many... I shall bring them though

It depends what you're riveting. I use roofing nails when I've got steel plates; plastic isn't good for that unless you use washers, at which point it gets kind of expensive.

Ah, well that is interesting. the instructable said metal and leather, but didn't say anything about plastic to my knowledge. Good to know

Aren't you in Medicine Hat?
I know they have armouring days in Moose Jaw often, but I don't drive so I rely on others (some day I will drive... some day, hopefully before Quad... though the people I go with are always going to the same events, so it works out) but our schedules are never in synch to go to Moose Jaw for armouring days, so we never get to go. If I do not work, (have to see the schedule for next month) I may be able to, since I don't even need to be back in Regina until Monday evening for my class... Though I think the people I normally go with have to work, so I'd be on my own and would probably have to stay in Moose Jaw at least Saturday/Sunday... hmm... It could be quite a fun little vacation though, Hanging out in Moose Jaw. It would be so great to at least start getting my armour ready. It would also be nice to hang out and meet with more than just the sigelhundas group, I don't know many others than my own group, but that is in part because I am shy... Yet, I really want to get working on it and then start fighting! I am getting excited! I guess I can find out this weekend if I work or not, and then get the wheels in motion if possible... If not, perhaps another time.

Yep, Rhuddglyn is hanging out in Valley Wold on Sunday to help with armouring. We got a bunch of helm halves and some dishing stumps.
