I honestly quit arting for a long while. I HAVE been keeping a daily sketchbook since I graduated college and got married. (Oh yeah! That happened!) So now that I'm married I paint for work since my husband makes enough to support us. I paint pieces of wood to look like Santa Claus for a local general store that sells novelties. I don't make much but it's enough to save for our vacations and cat and stuff lol.

Congrats!! That actually sounds like fun! (the painting santas; though also the getting married bit ) Have you been married long?
I haven't uploaded in forever either and quite art for a long time too (other than some minor stuff for school)...
But I'm getting back into it! Do you plan on trying it again too?

A daily sketchbook's impressive too O.o That takes dedication! haha

I want to try again soon! Eventually! Or explore other avenues. I enjoy painting the santas. I'm given a lot of freedom on how creative I want to get with them, though I am supposed to paint hundreds.

I've been married since June 5th, so no, not long!

What got you out of art for a while?

I'm just using high quality acrylics because I've heard they have more stretch and flexibility so are less prone to cracking. They're called Lukas Cryl. But otherwise no lol! They're just acrylics!

True! Acrylic's basically a little layer of rubbery plastic. I'd be worried that they'd start peeling off though. Though maybe it seeps in enough?....Do you have to prime/seal the fabric in any way?

I've heard of people having issues with it peeling off... I don't prime or seal the fabric initially but I do wash and scrub it to make sure all the dirt's gone and then seal it afterward with an acrylic spray. I also water the paint down as I'm painting so it really soaks into the fabric. I think I've seen it have a little bit of a tendency to peel in places where I don't dilute it enough initially.

Oh and I just saw something that I said that might not portray what I meant-- I seal it with acrylic sealant AFTER painting everything, not after washing. You should do this!! I'd love to see some of your art on shoes!

I agree. It is special in a way that's kind of undefinable. Its limitations make it beautiful and the artist's creativity in overcoming those limitations is special as well.
