Awesome shot! I did the tour a few years ago to the Holgate Glacier and saw it calving. What a great experience! You captured the size nicely with the sailboat in the foreground.

Thanks! That boat was still probably 3/4 a mile away from the face, if not more. That one is HUGE.

Definitely! But once when we visited the Aialik Glacier, the wind was blowing very hard off the glacier...now THAT was COLD. Brrrrr!

This is super cool ! I haven't been on the Kenai Fjords tours. Are they pretty reasonably priced ?

Well, I'm not sure what you consider reasonable, but I think whatever the cost, the tours are worth every cent! I always enjoy them, no matter the weather. We have been on tours both out of Seward (most often) and Whittier, and have always seen wildlife, and lots of beauty. You should try it sometime.

OK. I presented the photo to Halyna Pahutyak (ukrainian writer, you remember) with the following words:
'The resorts of Alaska are always opened for you!'
Than you once more, Carole!

is this glacier coming or going
i'd have thought the boat would have been iced in

Well, I'm not sure, but the Aialik Glacier, where the tour boat usually goes, did have too much ice in the water for the boat to make it in. In this area, we were able to get in fairly close, and we could hear the thunder as it cracked and shifted. I even got a shot of some stuff falling down, but it wasn't large chunks.
