Mixed media (ink, watercolor, acrylic) on bristol vellum (140 lb.) 9" x 12" (or 22.9 cm x 30.5 cm approx.). Illustration made for the Enchanted Visions Project's old theme "Emergence". I think the last theme I did for EV was "Anima Sola". I skipped a few before that and a few after before we went on a hiatus for the summer to recharge -- being a part of administration can be mentally draining and tedious... But as we are getting ready to swing back into action, I decided to take a look at the list of themes and see if anything would inspire me. I originally had a very dark image planned for "Emergence", but that idea never really took off earlier this year. Right before I went to check on the list, I was looking at some pictures of the Venezuelan Poodle Moth, and this is what I ended up illustrating.

The original is much prettier since I used iridescent gold paint as a finishing touch. It's difficult to photograph (needs to be angled to catch the light), and impossible to capture in a scan as you see here. So the real pleasure of seeing this piece in its full glory is reserved for the person who buys the original. I still think it's a lovely piece though. I like it a lot.
