“Lawd…” croaked the old stable hand, “lookit dat face, Miz’ Scarlett. She’s got a firecracker poppin’ right offit!”

“I see it Emmanuel… and look at all the chrome she has!”

The coppery newborn lay wriggling on a thick bed of straw before her admirers, her dam hovering protectively somewhere overhead. Cinnamon had chosen again to foal on a holiday, only this time it was in the middle of a sweltering South Carolina summer with nearly 100% humidity during the day and barely any relief at night.

It was the evening of Independence Day, and somewhere off in the distance fireworks were booming out across the water, and on any other day those intermittent rumblings could have been the thunder from a summer storm over the ocean, but to the humans and horses sweating together next to the barn fan those rumbles were special. Because this foal was special.

“It wouldn’t matter to me if she never won a single race, she’s just that pretty,” Scarlett continued.

“Now, Miz’ Scarlett, you can’t go ‘round sayin’ things like that! Fillies is mighty impressionable, you should know that…”

“I know, Emmanuel, but look at her … so elegant and poised already! She’s just like an old southern belle.”

Emmanuel chuckled, “You’re the southern belle, Miz’ Scarlett, but this filly here is a liberty belle.”

“So she is,” murmured Scarlett, “so she is…”

Name: Miss Liberty Belle, aka “Libby” or “Belle”

Color & Markings: Red chestnut w/ star and connected strip/snip, hind & right fore stockings

Height: 15.1hh
Build: She is very fine-boned and feminine in appearance, with a graceful, elongated neck, sloping shoulders, and slender, though still perfectly formed legs. Her dark eyes are very deep and soulful, and she moves in an elegant, almost upright manner that is very ladylike, though her personality is anything but prima-donna.
Temperament: Sweet, trusting, and exceptionally patience, she is also very willing to please. Despite her flashy appearance she is not very bold on her own, but she will do her best to make any rider happy and once bonded she will love you for life.
History: This filly was the product of an accidental breeding between our mare Cinnamon Girl and a stallion in training at the time. We hadn’t been planning on breeding Cinnamon that year, and didn’t even know she was pregnant until February of 2002 when we realized she wasn’t coming into heat and had a vet check her out. By that point she was 6 months pregnant already and little Libby Belle was well on her way to coming into the world. Born on Independence Day with a firework popping right off her face, we thought the name suited her well. We didn’t see much of a racing career in her future, and instead started her under saddle training at age three. With her calm demeanor she is making an excellent pleasure mount, and we are also looking forward to trying out ladies’ sidesaddle with her some day in the near future.
Bloodlines: By a chestnut stallion named McLaren out of Cinnamon Girl.
Offspring: None yet.
Breeder: Fate.

Here's another 'back-in-time' piece while I'm still playing catch up! The third foal out of my foundation mare Cinnamon Girl... yeh, this one was an accident, but I still think she's purty.
