There are several things that immediately stood out to me. First, the slight off centering of the image, whether intentional or not, gave the image a sense of a loss of balance, which enhanced the woeful nature of the picture. The second thing was the framing of the hands and arms that seemed to have an otherworldly effect when it fell out of focus, reminiscent of Edvard Munch’s The Scream. The removal of color, of stark black and white, contributed to the mood of melancholy, hopelessness, and on the edge of breaking down.
The composition of the image, with hair tossed, added a hint of desperation, while the hands on the head covering the ears made it seem they were trying to block something out. The very shallow depth of field makes the face seem to float, with everything else falling away behind. I liked the face partially concealed, almost as if the hair alone could help protect the shattering psyche of the person. The lack of much, or any, makeup also speaks to the unapologetic display of deep emotion, or perhaps even more heart breaking, the inability to hide it.
What seems to get me after mulling all of this over is the freckles. They belie a happier time, when she was embraced by the sun. It is in sharp contrast to dark she finds herself surrounded in now.

i think this photo is one of the best i ever seen in the expression-wise work, about the vision, you imagined what you want and done it perfectly, originality i gave it 5 stars because your tears look honest, as if you were really crying, the technique i love the details on the lips, the tiny hair on the arms, the thick beautiful eyebrows, the freckles too. in conclusion its an honest photo with no manipulation, i gave technique 4.5 because i am dying to see the colorful version of this photo, though it is said that you removed the colors to emphasize the emotion. what a beautiful photo and great work

I have to disagree with you, it is most definitely manipulated. The white highlights and some of the shadows are fairly skillful brush strokes done in a digital program, much like how the signature was applied. One can see it very clearly on the uncovered eye, as it doesn't look like the artist used the pen pressure setting (maybe done with a mouse, not a tablet?)- this makes the ends of the strokes a little blocky instead of tapering out. I don't by any means think that this makes it any less of an honest work of art- I think it's very tastefully done and the artist should be given credit for it!

Another amazing shot!
The expression on the face is at once, tormented, haunted, yet beautiful. The picture is well balanced and composed. I like that the picture is in black and white, as color might have distracted from the evocative emotional elements. It lends to the feeling of anguish, and torment.
Your work is so emotionally intense, capturing the viewer, it fixates the eye. You are compelled to look, the rawness, and the feeling is breath-taking.
Overall, I love this piece. My only tweak would be that the right eye be less covered by the hair. I feel that it might have intensified the overall feeling, and given the viewer a better point of focus, which otherwise, for me anyway, was initially the lips.

Nuevamente por aquí, por alguna razón me gusta dar un punto de vista acerca de algunas de tus fotografías. En primer lugar debo decir que me encanta la serie "Haunted", todas las fotos de ésta son tan expresivas y el manejo del blanco y negro es inspirador, es como si cada fotografía de la serie transmitiera tus sentimientos mas oscuros. Ahora bien, centrándome en esta fotografía, lo primero en lo que me he fijado es en los ojos y he pensado ¡Cuanto brillo!, lucen y destacan de una forma increíble. También me ha gustado el brillo del cabello y los labios, sin duda el rostro del personaje es fantástico, de otro mundo. Pero bien, hay algo de esta fotografía que me tiene confundido, ¿Son manos las que sostienen tu rostro? porque lucen extremadamente largas y extrañas. Deduzco que son manos porque si el titulo es "The voice in my head" entonces encaja el hecho de que cubras tus oídos, pero miro la fotografía varias veces y aún no asimilo el par de manos; Quizá otra pose de manos y dedos hubiese favorecido la fotografía, pero sin duda has hecho otra increíble fotografía. ¡Saludos!
PD: Eres la única a quien envío mis criticas ya que eres de los pocos que habla español por aquí, espero que no me veas como un "stalker" XD

Makes me think it's a drawing rather than a photograph. It's something about the lips, the tip of the nose and the water around the left eye that make it look unreal, as if painted.

That is because they were, photoshop!
Mainly the lips and the tears by the eyes.

You can tell, tears do not look like that on skin
plus the lines on the lips do not go with the lips
shape. If these things were really in the photo,
they would have natural texture, shadows & light.
Which they don't. Hence why they stand out.
