hehe, yeah, well, it wouldn't be Pern if you went hogwild breaking rules. I know people do this, but I'd never say, create another dragon colour as a mutation like Ruth. I justify my canon changes because its a matter of gender equality!

I'm talking about me. Five colors feels limiting to me, but for your story it works fine from my point of view. I mean, you have to have a limited range of characters in a story or it gets out of control.
My role play group though, it always felt that if I had to stick to just five colors for hundreds of characters, I'd explode. xP heh

Well, rps can get so in depth, with so many characters and situations, that does make sense. Comparatively speaking, the Pern world is pretty simple and non-complex.

I'd agree, especially in terms of variety of characters. In the books, there are Holderfolk and Craftfolk that are active characters, usually Lord Holders and Master Craftsmen, allowing some characters not to have a dragon attached to them.
So I'm a strong supporter of more-than-five colors in role plays for the sake of diversity and more potential options for any given Candidate.
