(there's a summary way down there, keep scrolling, no need to suffer for details <''3)

Jarin  hesitated to knock on her door but she saw him before he got the chance to wimp out and waved him in. Jarin sighed and walked in, “Good morning, Jennie.” He had been dreading this day. It couldn’t be good news when the head of the stable calls him in for “a talk”. They had too many “talks” in the past. Jarin knew he was on the hot seat to be asked to leave. And time after time, no matter how hard he tried to behave and be helpful, something always happened that messed everything up. The most recent being Tristan and Sydney getting into a fight and who was at the center of it - Jarin.
“Good morning, Jarin,” Jennie greeted him in a friendly fashion. “Please, have a seat.”
Jarin closed the door behind him and sat down. He couldn’t help but fidget with the hem of his shirt. He kept his eyes to the floor just in case. Was she going to make him leave? Where was he going to go? Would he have to get rid of his horses? Jarin could feel the tears in his eyes well up already.
Jennie tried to keep it light, “So, I talked to Sydney  about this fight that happened in my stable. I knew he and Tristan  didn’t get along but I didn’t realize it was quite so bad. Jarin, is there anything going on here that is going to affect the stable or how my staff works? Because, I don’t mean to come down on you every time, but you seem to be a connecting factor here. I cannot afford my staff fighting with each other and causing scenes like that. Do you understand? This is a horse riding facility, not a wrestling ring, not a circus show, and not some kind of soap opera.”
“I’m sorry!” Jarin went ahead and threw that out there. “I didn’t mean for anything like that to happen! They just…I…” Jarin wasn’t sure where to even begin to explain how things got so bad.
Jennie rubbed the bridge of her nose, “I want things to work out for you here. We’ve had this talk multiple times, Jarin.”
    “I know. But I’m trying!”
Jennie nodded, “I believe you. But there’s a reason we keep having to have this conversation, Jarin.”
Jarin frowned and hunkered in his seat. He didn’t like where this was going. He had yet to look up in fear he would just start to cry. He didn’t want to take his punishment crying. This is what happens in life when someone can’t follow the rules.
Jennie was very serious about what she was saying, “You have got to separate your personal life from your professional life, okay? What you do outside of the stable needs to stay there, okay? If it isn’t related to riding or horses, I don’t want it happening here any more, okay?”
     “I understand,” he quietly obliged.
Jennie smiled kindly, “Just until you can settle things down in your life, okay?” Jennie could tell he was down on himself; he wouldn’t even look up from his lap. She felt bad for always calling him in here to scold him. But…Jarin had a record behind him and it was a bit scary as a business owner. Maybe as scary as still hanging onto Sydney as a trainer. But Jennie was one to take risks for high profits. Speaking of which…Jennie cleared her throat, “Uhm, Tristan showed me the castle you were talking about a while back! Incredible! I’m so ashamed I didn’t go out there to see it sooner! You found something very exciting for RidgeRunner.”
Jarin perked up a little with the change of subject, “Really? Tristan was talking about restoring it to what it once was!”
Jennie nodded, just as enthusiastic, “Of course! I’ve been calling all over to see what we can do about it. I think it’s got so much potential to be something really fantastic! I can’t thank you enough for finding something so incredible out there!”
Jarin smiled, “Is there any way I can help out?”
“Well, first I need to clear the paperwork to actually be able to claim it. But after that, the stable can put a substantial amount of money into it and Tristan has offered some out of pocket. But I was thinking…if you really wanted to help-“
    “I do!”
Jennie chuckled, “If you really want to help out, you could get back into competing for the stable again. As an official rider. Not just as a boarder.”
Jarin’s jaw fell open and about landed in his lap. He was stunned.
    …
    …
    “Uhm…” Jennie tried to get a response…
    …
    …
    “If you don’t want to-“
Jarin stood straight up from his chair and stood like a soldier. He huffed out his chest and bit his lip so he didn’t start crying, “It would be an honor to ride for RidgeRunner! I will work my absolute hardest to make this stable proud! And I mean that! I swear!”
Jennie blinked a couple of times, not used to such enthusiasm. “Oookay. Great!” She reached into her desk and pulled out a huge stack of paperwork – it really wasn’t that bad. Most of it was legal mumbo jumbo to cover RidgeRunner’s ass in court. “Let’s get some paperwork done.”
Jarin left Jennie’s office with a smile. He was now officially part of the RidgeRunner staff at this point as a competitor. Jennie felt a little bad because it was very one-sided but Jarin felt very proud and happy to go along with it even after she explained all about it. Basically, Jarin was required to show for them. RidgeRunner paid entry fees, transport, housing at shows, etc. but RidgeRunner also got a hefty percentage of Jarin’s earnings. This went towards the operations of the facility and such. And a new castle…
The money was great and all and Jarin had no problem with the percentage they agreed on but really Jennie was more concerned about the insurance. She didn’t tell Jarin the reason in the exact words she was thinking but basically as a staff member, it made it incredibly harder for Jarin to turn around and sue RidgeRunner for “accidents” and “oopsies” of Jarin’s. The recent events had kept Jennie up for several nights with the worry of a lawsuit.
Yea, she was probably taking advantage of him by holding him in an armlock but she had a business to worry about. Now Jarin held the same weight of responsibility as the rest of them. If he became negligent as a boarder, it came down on RidgeRunner to protect their boarders. If he was negligent as a staff member, there was reason to void Jarin’s contract and dispose of his services. It was a failsafe for Jennie – not a guaranteed one because Jarin was a huge risk to take on but she’d rather keep her friends close, and keep her high-risk riders even closer… Basically, Jennie wanted stronger control over her ticking time bomb and hope she could either defuse him or chuck him in the furthest ocean before it all exploded in her face.

Jarin made his way for the exit, ready to fly to the moon! His legs were drawn to chaos, seeing Sydney’s truck was there, he headed for the outdoor arena, knowing Sydney would be there. Ha! They were colleagues now! The least he could do was let him know.
As he predicted, Sydney was working a young horse on what looked like some trail obstacles. Jarin stopped a ways off, feeling very out of place now. He used to ride all the time in the outdoor arena with Sydney. His shoulders burned all the time but he didn’t mind so much. The fresh air was so nice. But now all this time staying away from Sydney…he just felt like an intruder.
The moment Sydney spotted him from the corner of his eye, he stopped the horse and dismounted. He dragged it over to the rail and looked at Jarin hard. He sighed and leaned on the rail, “I thought you ran to the next state over. I said I didn’t mean to-”
Jarin stepped forward a little, shaking his head, “No, I…” Jarin changed the subject before he got in trouble. He knew Sydney hadn’t really hit him. It was an accident. “It’s okay. Uhm! I ride for RidgeRunner now, as an official team rider!” That’s what he really wanted to talk about!
Sydney furrowed his brows, “Really?” He didn’t mean to sound as shocked as he did. Disbelief, really.
Jarin nodded with a smile, “So now…I can ride for you. Officially, that is.”
Sydney grinned. The fact that Jarin even said those words...the fact that he was even being considered… Beautiful. “Thought you were done with western? Or have you changed yer mind now? Got some sense knocked into you when you jumped into my elbow?”
Jarin chuckled a little, “No, Jennie told me to.”
The grin flattened right out to a frown. That wasn’t the answer he wanted to hear. Where was the affection in that? Sydney couldn’t tell where he stood with Jarin anymore and it drove him up the wall a little. He didn’t like the tension hanging over his head and feeling like he was at the mercy of Jarin. And all he could do was play nice like some little schoolboy in fear that he would retaliate against him. And Sydney hated it. The controlling part of Sydney wanted to find a way to hold Jarin down again. He didn’t like he outpowered him. Not at all. This whole, “being nice” shit was not pleasant at all. Sydney bulled up a little, “Well, shit, she tell you to give a damn about it too?” Probably didn’t need to say that but Sydney was pissed already.
Jarin looked confused, “Uhm, no. But…I do miss Hank . Could I maybe…ride him?”
Sydney was growing increasingly annoyed. He was just acting like there was nothing between them. First fear and anger and justly so. Now just… none of it ever existed. Sydney sighed, “Yea, sure. Go ahead.” Sydney spoke as if he were miles away from Jarin. He took his horse back out and mounted up without another word.
Jarin’s heart dropped a little bit. He hadn’t seen Sydney look so bothered by something before. He saw how his shoulders had slouched and looked away from him. He looked sad. He was just trying to act like a professional and only talk about work. But he desperately wanted to not only thank Sydney for helping him so much but also just… check in on him. He was hopelessly addicted to him no matter how bad he really was for Jarin. Some people just couldn’t be helped and that was Jarin and Sydney both.
Jarin felt so much relief and joy to be able to work with Hank again. He was such a sweet gelding. Patient and kind. He wouldn’t hurt the flies that liked to nibble on his butt. He nickered upon seeing Jarin, recognizing him as the walking treat bag. He held out his nose and blinked lazily at Jarin.
Jarin smiled and slipped him a treat from the tack room. So cute. He saddled him up easily in his western gear. It was like he was riding western yesterday; it came to him with such ease. He smiled at the marks Sydney had left underneath the fenders for the stirrups to go up. There were still two small “J”s on both sides to mark where Jarin needed to have his stirrups after Sydney lost his patience with him the first go around. Sydney went through and marked every single saddle in the tack room so Jarin would never forget. Jarin never forgot. Try as he might. He couldn’t. His heart refused to.

HANK.
Hank's back.
Jarin's back in western.
Things are coming around >: D Unless you're on Team Tristan and then things are slipping wildly out of control : D Not quite in Sydney's favor either but ey, he's in jeans and chaps, Sydney's taking the small victory even if he's pouting about it.

I've been looking forward to Jarin and Hank reuniting for so long now x''''O They best frands <3 Hank's so happy to have treat boy back lolol He's been so treatless for too long!
And uh, hey, Jarin has a job now? (two jobs, really) This boy is now sponsored??
Place your predictions now how many days until he gets fired :''D

Artwise, I survived so many rocks. Do I feel more confident about them? Nope. Did I do it anyway? Yep. Will I do it again? Not any time soon xD But I did like playing around with all the oranges and purply pinky blues~ That was fun!
