I had painted this nearly a year ago as environment practice, but left it unfinished as usual.I was thinking about a friend's story-in-the-works today. What I've read of it so far from it has created some pretty intense synaesthesia: the taste of wet ground and leaves in the air, somewhat musty, fragrant with things alive and dead. It reminded me of this scene, so I went back to it for those few final touches.

Are you kidding me? This reminded me of my story and, at the same time, it also reminded you of my story? What the actual fuck? Oh, let me count the ways I love you~!
That aside, this image has such a strong physical presence. It really feels strongly alive and tactile. I'm really impressed with how the path, and then suggestion of the path formed by background trees, draws my eye all along the image. Also, the pallet is lovely and calming and so completely suggestive of autumn.

To clarify: I woke up with this autumn-like synaesthesia that led me to work on this picture. Then you mentioned Mandragora and I remembered that I had the same feeling when I was thinking about Mandragora the other day. I mashed it up in the description for brevity's sake.

Heh, I realized the reference was responsible for my comment after I saw the reference photo. Oops. So, my comment about the eye being led along the path is not you, but the reference photographer.

The lighting in the background and the way the trees fade into it is most excellent and faithful to the reference photo. There's a lovely soft airy feel. I'm finding very little wrong here. I love the shading on the road and the grass and trees. Well done Eleni, I hope you're happy with this!

Amazing in its simplicity and depth. It looks to go on for infinity into the fog, even though it doesn't...I also dig the way you used so few colors to make it, but got so much variation within the range you chose! Really brilliant.

Thanks! Though the original photo is sepia-coloured, I wanted to imply a natural lighting with this one. So I'm glad it seems to have worked.
