I've been watching a lot of Primeval lately, which has resparked my love for prehistoric animals, particularly velociraptor. This is my little male wanna-be-high-ranking raptor Mokai, who is about two years old and wants to be a lead male. (In the society of my raptors, it's matriarchal, so Mokai can't really rise to the status of any true rank, but he still has aspirations to be a boss male, the mate of a matriarch perhaps.) Mokai is couragious, loyal, a bit stupid, a look-before-he-leaps-type of guy, but he's kind hearted to his packmates. (Though extremely suspicious of everyone else.)

I put a lot of thought into Mokai's markings. I'm not sure if he'll keep all the blue, because most animals get brighter coats as they get higher ranks and you might as well call Mokai a peasant as he is right now. The blue crest is what he WISHES he had perhaps. I chose blue because so often people use red, or some other colour and he might lose those orange tips, but for now, this is his design. I tried to go a little more out of the ordinary with the rest of his markings, because hey, he is a EXTINCT animal, so note the sort of broken stripe/spots. I gave him a nice caramel coloured base coat because most predators have that sort of colour and because a lot of big cats have it, the white/black ringed tail tip. He has classic predator amber eyes.

I didn't have the energy to line art him or anything, so I just did a quickie ref. I'll be drawing his sis soon too. They're from a future story I'd like to do, currently dubbed Velocity. It's an alternate reality thing. (Though alternate reality of prehistory - NO humans involved. In this reality the dinosaurs weren't wiped out after the cretatious.)

Of course he's got a proper fluffy coat of feathers on, since paleontologists say these fellas were feathered. (Birds are dinosaurs. There's solid proof now.)
