Description featuring our own Spanish armada SDS's Chila'li 117 and EKS's Solitudes Reach .

this painting kicked my butt ;-; with my new kitten (and her vocal antics) interrupting me as well as trying to get the colors juuuust right I was fed up with the background before I even got it half-done xD I did enjoy painting the horses though. They took about 3-6 hours each x3 and I enjoyed them. Originally this was going to be Armada, Basil & Kalyn and I ended up falling in love with Solitude's Reach and painted him instead of basil and then I decided it would be way wicked to try and make a realistic snow dripple nordanner so kalyn also go outed xD because i couldn't find Chila'li's dragon tack I left her without tack in this painting

thanks ^_^ I was so worried I wasn't getting his design right ;-; he is very beautiful though x3 I'm glad I got the chance to draw him :3

^-^ his design is uniquely simple compared to how most Nordanner's look, and its very nice.

it is x3 it's deceptively simple and lovely :3 it certainly had me fooled for a few hours there ^_^ but the more I worked on him the more I loved his design <3 sometimes nice and simple is the prettiest thing in the world. he reminds me of my sorrel filly. She has only one sock and it's little spots on the hoof line but boy is she pretty x3 <3 <3

she sounds like a very pretty mare, my cousin has a bay TB/Swedish Warmblood with a white star and three socks, he's a beautiful gelding.

she's very pretty. She has this adorable face that's still very baby like (she turned four this year xD) and she has a LOT of chrome so she shines like a brand new penny x3

awwww that sounds like a lovely horse <3

ooohhh she sounds very nice ^-^ buckskins and duns are some of my favorite colores for horses, though the silver gene in blacks and bays are also one of my favorites.

Yeah Shawn is a very good horse, comes to the fence when my cousin goes out to get him, she does dressage and jumping with Shawn he's very multitask-able.

sounds like my filly x3 she comes running when I get to the field and won't leave my side. I've had to shoo her out of the barn while grabbing my tack she follows me everywhere lol.

my favorite is the shiny mud-brown horses. The chestnuts that aren't quite copper colored. I just love that earthy tone.

its the 'quieter' colors that catch my eye the most, horse patterns that aren't 'busy'.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fishebone In reply to Cogaidh [2012-06-13 03:13:44 +0000 UTC]

the only busy patterns that I really fall for are appaloosas and even then it's the 'quiet' appaloosas I adore the most. i grew up across the street from an appy breeder and they've always been my favorite horse ever since then. My favorite was a palomino leopard who had really small, faint spots. She looked white until you were 5 feet or closer to her :3

oh now that sounds like a very beautiful horse, pintaloosa's are very pretty as well in my opinion. but appies are very nice as well. Leopard appaloosas are one of my favorites of the appaloosa patterns.

she was. and she had the sweetest people loving personality too. Pintaloosas aren't as common where I live but they are very pretty. i like the combination of large patches and small spots. it makes them look like a quilt :3 Leopard Apps. are my favorite too x3 they can have such great variety in their markings!

Cogaidh In reply to fishebone [2012-06-13 14:58:04 +0000 UTC]

Every horse with those patterns are just so unique. Each with their own personal look, I really like that. After all no two Apps are the same ^-^. And its always a treat to find a horse that just loves to be around people, they are always some of the best horses to be around.

fishebone In reply to Cogaidh [2012-06-13 15:00:13 +0000 UTC]

yeah :3 i used to spend hours brushing her just to try and count her spots xD it is a blessing to be around such colorful horses. I got lucky. My filly is very people oriented. I can throw her into all sorts of situations to train her and she takes them with a grain of salt like 'okay, I trust you, but I don't like this'

Sounds like you have a very good relationship with your filly, ^-^ I don't have a horse (though I want one) and I haven't been able to ride in years, though I used to ride almost every weekend back in elementary and middle school.

fishebone In reply to Cogaidh [2012-06-13 15:10:05 +0000 UTC]

i do. i haven't had her too long (only a few months) and she follows me everywhere. I don't get to go out to the field and ride too often so when I do I try to take it easy on her and just bond with her. i'm in no hurry to finish her out so it's working great.

I used to do that too in elementary and middle school :3 highschool smashed my time and I couldn't go riding any more but since I've graduated I was able to talk my parents into letting me buy a horse ^_^ best day of my life ever.

I moved in my 8th grade year to a new state so the stable I used to ride at wasn't an option anymore, (and it got hit by two or three different tornadoes), I've ridden every once in a while since I've moved to Virginia, mainly one day things and only simple trail riding. And with my current prospect with Degrees in college I don't think I'll have time any time soon to even think about getting a horse (I'm studding to get my bachelors in Bio-Medical Engineering). So I'm content now to draw them for the time being. ^-^

Tornadoes have a way of hitting all the wrong places ;-;

That's a shame that you had to move :/ but best of luck with your degree. That's one heck of a career field to get into

Cogaidh In reply to fishebone [2012-06-13 20:31:20 +0000 UTC]

I remember one of the horses, a huge (18 hh) black stallion, tall and lean, named Axle who had his angle blow out from the pressures inside the tornado, they had him sent all over the country to see if anyone could fix his ankle. I think it was a Vet school out in South Carolina that managed to do it. He's back at the barn and his ankle is better than it was before.

She's very cathartic to draw. DN's are always fun to look at. ^-^ its a very unique breed that encourages people to use every bit of their creativity.

fishebone In reply to Cogaidh [2012-06-14 02:48:07 +0000 UTC]

it is it's a beautiful and intriguing breed ^_^ they certainly make me work my imagination hard to draw them but they're so worth it <3 I adore my DN's. such free-reign and flexibility in the breed with just enough guiding restriction is wonderful. I love the diversity of them all

Cogaidh In reply to fishebone [2012-06-14 02:52:00 +0000 UTC]

Same here ^-^ which is why it distresses me when people can't be bothered to create their own designs and blatantly steal from people. (it happened to a friend of mine here on DA) But that's that. My girl is fun (more simplistic in design than most DNs, though that's just my style).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fishebone In reply to Cogaidh [2012-06-14 03:16:56 +0000 UTC]

oh that drives me nuts >.< there's more than enough creativity in the world to make a unique character design. i've been lucky to not find any stolen characters so far of mine. not gonna say none have been stolen since they might not have been found buuut yeah. I feel terrible for people who've been stolen from ;-;

I love the simpler designs. They're so refreshing and beautiful. It reminds me that you _don't_ have to make highly intricate designs to have a gorgeous character

Cogaidh In reply to fishebone [2012-06-14 03:20:28 +0000 UTC]

Well the person who stole ideas from my friend got found and banned from the group (I do believe) so I'm satisfied on that point.

^-^ seems to be a common theme in our chat about simpler being refreshing and beautiful. I think we are on to something here.

that's good that they got removed. I know Kiriai doesn't like theives so I doubt they'd let something like that slide.

it seems to be xD Kinda makes me want to draw up a nice simple character x3 but I dunno if I'd have the time to give them the love they'd need ;-;

Cogaidh In reply to fishebone [2012-06-14 03:26:47 +0000 UTC]

I know the feeling, I see designs I love but I have to sit back and go.... wait I won't be able to give them the love the deserve.... oh well. Yeah I'm on the outer fringes of the HARPG community, I'm not really active in events that much, I find they gather to much drama for my liking. So I mainly keep to my self and work on technique and creativity.

I only participate in a few shows myself. I joined a few groups that are 'long term' projects like a jousting group and the outlaw trail but both of those are tihngs I'd LOVE to participate in IRL so I figured it'd be worth drawing about x3 and they gave me room to work with a TON of my characters, develope my people and expand on character stories :3

other then that I do the occassional 'big' show and mainly 'mini' shows. I try to focus on character developement via story art and rpg personally. It's refreshing to work on storylines and just enjoy my characters instead of getting caught up in a billion and one shows. They do attract a lot of drama and I'm not a big fan of drama myself. I can easily say I'm not a huge player in harpg x3

I'm in Outlaw Trail as well ^-^ to bad we're on opposite 'sides' (I'm a Lawman). I didn't know there was a Jousting group on DA, I'm really interested in Medieval stuff (my favorite books are Medieval fantasy). I'll have to look that group over ^-^

I love camp-out trail rides so the outlaw trail was just an awesome thing for me x3 o-o I'm sure we could figure something out for a wacked out colab even if we're on opposite sides xD that'd be fun actually x3

<< that's the jousting group I'm in. They're still trying to get enough people to finish registering their joust and non-joust horses before opening up the first joust event but there're other medival horse back events open right now :3
