Description Pencil
8½ x 10"
1980

The house across the narrow alley from our apartment. It's a simple architecture, two porches front and back. The tower is part of a large house not seen from this angle―went up the street a few houses to draw this in.

Looking at my little drawing now, I see I imagined both the tower and the house as little doll houses. Hmm.

House is in this front view of a back side and maybe that makes it a little dolly , however trees are very sensitive as well as bushes formed in good composition, i like it very much, and that's in style...

I bow, sir.

I'm amazed at how you used the shading to emphasize the brightness of the sunlight on the house, trees and grass.

I'll certainly be looking at more of your art.

Thank you. No, the closest I've come to a more elaborate structure is "The Court House" [link] or the "Historical Museum" [link]

*sighs*

It looks like a fairy tale story with the tower. I've loved towers and how when you get the at the right angle they're like the towers with the princess at the castle. My hometown has tons of old houses and the one right across from my parents' house is actually old and has towers, but I think this is cooler. I like how it's just a normal house with this awesome tower in the background. Overall I really like the scene; honestly, I find it inspiring, so hopefully in some future story I can create a scene like this. This makes me sigh with happiness.

Anyways, I really like the craftsmanship and the trees and grass and detail. It looks so real like as though it's from a storybook.

I'm a hopeless fairy tale believer.

Sarah,

And never stop being a fairy tale believer.

Thank you so much for your story about how you actually have such a thing so close to home.

Make me a fairy tale.

Best,

Robert

Robert,

You're welcome. I write fiction and my newest is a fairy tale of sorts, I'll have to find a good scene from it to create.

Thank you. You can be in a place like this. Find it.

P.S. Please get a photo of you with your hair flying. A mess of hair blowing in the wind. You've got some that come close....

hank1 In reply to lorana69elfen [2007-11-29 15:11:20 +0000 UTC]

No excuse. Please. Your hair is so beautiful. And you don't need a camera with you. Make it a pastel or a colored pencil or oils. Or if you know how (I wish I did know how) to make a painting it in Photoshop.

Please go for it!

Look at my portraits. I love wild hair. Why do girls want to comb their hair when it's already looking attractive in the morning. I tell my wife "don't comb it". But she does. I guess she must.

Robert you again show the magic and the power of a simple pencil on paper.

Your doll house comment is correct and for me what does that is the white hot look of the roof, it makes not believe in the reality of it. Is the due to reproducing the picture for posting or does the original look like that?

hank1 In reply to dangel88 [2007-11-28 13:57:24 +0000 UTC]

You are correct. I had it up earlier. Got a note from a Marine at "Together We Served" (please look it up) who wanted to buy a print for his den. I had a much larger file of this picture, so deleted the original and put up this one that can produce much larger prints.

Thank you again.
