This is the third installment in the Smashified Series! You can watch the time lapse video here: (With Commentary | Without Commentary )As usual, this one was really challenging, and to be quite honest, I'm painfully aware that it falls short in certain respects. Banjo's face in particular proved to be very difficult for me to properly capture. I'm not sure what it is about it that gave me so much trouble.
I hope to make some remedial tweaks to it based on people's feedback.Like I mentioned in the video, I tried to imagine what the characters would have ended up looking like today if their visual evolution was more gradual, rather than having a particular jump where the design was reimagined from the ground up.
In other news, suggestions are changing a bit. You can now tweet directly at smashified , which is the best way to have your suggestion be seen. Comments anywhere else with #smashified also works.

Here's the Bristle Tip settings I used to achieve the fur effect here.
Shape: Round Fan
Bristles: 9%
Length: 25%
Thickness: 1%
Stiffness: 88%
Angle: 0º (didn't use pen angle, no support using my Tablet)
Shape Dynamics > Angle Jitter > Control: Direction

Where do I even begin? This drawing of Banjo-Kazooie is honestly one of the best, if not the best, drawing of the Rare Duo that I've ever seen. I like how you took the classic N64 design (never was a fan of the Nuts and Bolts look) and upgraded it. The small details on Banjo's bag and shorts, the additional fur and just how everything looks is spot on. If I had one small problem, it's the eyes. If he were to be in Smash Bros Wii u and 3DS. He'd have to have his Nuts & Bolts model. No Offense. I never played the old N64 games cause I was only a PlayStation gamer. But the way you did his design makes me go buy an old N64 just to play these old dinosaurs. five stars for originality, vision, technique, and impact in my eyes. You should feel proud of this masterpiece alone. And hopefully maybe someday you'll do a Smashified on an sadly a very obscure character, Bowletta. Vote for Bowletta for Smash ballot! Yeah! Hmm? I liked the way that you created this piece using a variety of techniques, and it looks very professional as a result. A couple of things I would say is that the fur looks a bit blurry at first glance, and some of the details (including the eyes) aren't quite as symmetrical as they would be on a real model.
Aside from that though, a lot of the details look amazing, and everything from the stitching on the backpack to the belt buckle look surprisingly well done. Overall, from watching your video and getting a feel for this as a finished piece, I still think it looks amazing, and it's a breath of fresh air in terms of fan art. Great job!

This modern depiction of classic Banjo & Kazooie brings to life characters beloved by many with beautiful attention to detail. The use of renders from the Smash Bros. series as reference points helps lend to the "Smashified" effect incredibly well. The techniques used are unmatched in the Smash Bros. community and contribute to its profound impact on fans of the Banjo-Kazooie series and Smash Bros. alike. The only criticism I have is that this artwork visually appears more like a painting than a render, unlike your previous works, such as Rayman and Shovel Knight, which takes away from the attempted effect.

I always enjoy seeing your samishified series. It's nice to see a talented artist take his time to see how he thinks characters would look in such a beloved fighting game. Overall I think you did a very good job. I specifically nod towards the clothing, fur, feathers, and backpack. I do agree however the faces are missing that smash feel. It's hard for me to explain sadly, but I turn towards your Rayman and Klonoa drawings as to what I mean. The Klonoa one especially captures that feeling I'm discussing. It could be the fact I feel the eyes stick out too much, but it could be something else entirely. Overall I love how you incorporated these classic N64 characters into Smash.
Vision: 5/5 It captured what I would want to see with Banjo and Kazooie very well.
Originality: 3.5/5 It's fanart so originality isn't really a huge goal.
Technique: 5/5 Like all your Smashified pictures you really took care in the smaller details which I love to examine and scope for.
Impact: 4.5/5 Not my favorite in the series, that honor goes to Klonoa, and I feel it's missing the slight charm of the others, but not enough for me to dislike it in the slightest.

The clothes look amazing, i love the detail you put into them. Everything about Kazooie is perfect and i love the feminine touches you added to her. Banjo's left foot looks a little small to me, not sure if its just because of the angle though. The main thing bugging me about Banjo though would have to be the absence of his whisker spots, his face just looks off with out them. Oh, the little tuft of hair you gave him thats sticking up looks a little fake due to the shading under it. Other than that Amazing work as always, i look forward to seeing who you Smashify next.

This is a very well put together piece of art! After seeing the N64 model for so long, this render took some getting used to. No matter, the detail that you put into this specific Smashified render is just incredible. Using the Kongs for inspiration was a good move, and using Pit's wings for Kazooie was very intelligent. This has got to be my favorite render art from you, Omni. The Rayman Leak was what got me to appreciate the render arts of all these characters, as well as try to create some on my own as well! If Banjo-Kazooie is used for Smash, I do hope that Sakurai or whoever is in charge of the render art takes inspiration from this.

It's a really good image! There is a lot of good here, but there is some stuff that could be fixed. Kazooie is perfect, your feather technique is fabulous and I really like the way she looks. It's in Banjo where most of the problems lie. Banjo's eyes are too far from his hairline and it gives him a weird expression that makes him look a little angry in my opinion. The shark tooth looks a little small, but I think that comes from the Nuts and Bolts design? Something that I know you couldn't help but is still present is where the fur blends into the feet it looks really fanart-y, which is a shame considering how great this image is otherwise. But seriously, good work!

I looks absolutely fantastic! If Banjo and Kazooie were in Smash Bros, this is what I would think of! The shading is perfect and the style replicates the style that is used on the official Smash Bros. character portraits. The furry texture looks very nice, and the pants/leathery texture looks great, as well as the shine on Banjo's eyes, nose, and belt buckle. Also, the feathers on Kazooie look great as well. The only problem that I can see is the right foot. It looks a little out of place and it looks 2D as opposed to 3D like it should be. Everything else looks amazing! Great job, Artsy Omni!

I think the execution of this piece is flawless. Drawing a character with fur and another with feathers, I can tell the artist did his homework and studied his subjects thoroughly. It's like I can almost touch them! The way the subjects are characterized is well done - I think the overall pose captures who they are. The lighting technique is near perfect. There are one or two areas where I think the values could be darker, but the effect as a whole is excellent. One area I think the artist can work on is toes and fingers that are visible - some darker values could really bring them out so that they don't look fused together.

Incredible work as always. I saw you responded to people pointing out the freckles and seemed to appreciate it, so I figured I'd point out the only small detail that bothers me a bit. And it very well may be just me, but the eyes seem to be really bulging out, especially on Banjo. I think the pupils look perfect and the overall shape is okay, but I suspect I'd feel more comfortable with them if they were more sunk-in. Just my two-cents though, still excellent, the practice and experimentation with the fur really did pay off. I also especially love the stitches on all of the cloth, that's the one element of their more recent Xbox redesigns that I was always a fan of, so I'm glad you incorporated it. I haven't written a critique on DA before, so I hope this fits what is expected from them well enough.

The clothes and backpack are REALLY good work, giving you props on that
it's nice, it's realistic, but, it doesn't seem...3D
it's a unexplainable feeling, really
play around SculptGL settings, and you'll see the difference between your draw and 3D models, it's a really useful tool to have
after closer examination, it seems the skin is breaking the suspension, the rest seems top-notch, the fur can be worked on, and you have trained it, it is still too painterly to seem real
still far above most artists can do

The Smash Ballot doesn't end for a few more days, so there will still be more characters (the director even said so). And they won't have version exclusive characters (hence why no Ice Climbers), so they'll probably just reformat the character screen.
