I have no idea for these because I ended up taking the feathers off and redoing them, but the version that I used for the dreamweaver has a span of roughly 4 meters when they are open

Beautiful! is it the pneumatic door stopper (at least thats what it looks like!) keep the wings in position when open?

would foam or poster board work the same or does getting that material cheaper to make larger feathers and hanger wire or wooden dowse for the part that going in the middle of the feather?

Mashayahana In reply to latinawolf95 [2014-02-21 06:55:31 +0000 UTC]
I honestly don't know because I've never tried those materials. These feathers aren't even 0,5 mm thick and weigh only a few grams a piece so I'm suspecting weight might be an issue with those heavier materials.
I know Sunnybrook1 made a wing/feather making tutorial with some other materials, maybe worth it to have a look at that?

My feathers are made of fake silk (polyester) lining fabric, lots of glue, and have drinking straws that I slide over bamboo sticks to attach them to the wing frame.

They look stunning so far!! But I have a question... What pieces are you using for the base, also for the joints? and how did you made the feather pieces?

Mashayahana In reply to MauroStrange [2013-09-20 05:31:08 +0000 UTC]
the base is a frame that was made for me as part of a trade, I think it's aluminium.
For the feathers, I made them similar to how =Sunnybrook1 makes them. Have a look at her Realistic Wings tutorial pt 2 for that.

White-Wolf-Terra [2013-09-19 10:18:52 +0000 UTC]
um, question. How heavy are they to wear?
π: 0 β©: 1
Mashayahana In reply to White-Wolf-Terra [2013-09-19 11:05:51 +0000 UTC]
Well, these were about 3,5 kilo's (roughly 7 lbs) when they were mostly done.
I just took them apart and am redoing them right now, they're are slightly heavier because the feathers are bigger, and I think the final product will be around 5 kilo's (or 10 lbs)

I'm going to try my hand at tackling a pair of wings similar to this... But how did you get the individual feathers to point downward when the wing was closed?

Mashayahana In reply to oONanami-ChanOo [2013-06-15 06:33:42 +0000 UTC]
The sticks that are in the feathers are in little plastic/rubber tubes, and the tubes are connected to the frame. When open, the string holds them up, when they close the string is no longer taut so the tubes allow them to shift to a downward straight position. Good luck on your wings!

How much will you charge for just the wing base?

Mashayahana In reply to Najawarie [2013-04-15 20:12:23 +0000 UTC]
I didn't make the wing base, so I can't sell that. Bushitaka on deviantart made the wing base for me in exchange for some leatherworking things I did for him.

Oh i know, well to be honest this is my first full fursuit (and my first attempt at wings) that i'm making. i've loved fursuiting for a long time but never really had an oppertunity to make one on my own. i've always wanted to try to get a fur meet or a LARP group or something going but i don't know how to go about that exactly, i'm so new to this i must admit ^^'

Bushitaka In reply to Mashayahana [2012-03-02 00:05:23 +0000 UTC]
