Amazing. God really wants us to follow his footsteps. Great drawing! its just me but it looks like he's holding a staff. (I see a lot of kung-fu ppl holding staves like that it's just me). Expression looks great. I think it was a nice touch with the lantern. This pic represents a lot of great things. Keep it up!

I'm very impressed by this piece. I love the fact that the cross on his back looks like a sword, it ties in perfectly well. I have not seen many Asian themes in Christian art, and I'm very glad I found this piece. I have met people that think that by having an interest in Asian culture I'm taking away from being a proper Christian, so, nothing, I really like this piece, it's very inspiring me and fits the Bible verse exceptionally well in an original way.

Hmm, not really... we do have some legends, but they are not that old, since we've only been here for 500 something years. We had some legends from the Taino Indians, but there is no recorded history, so most of it is lost. I personally feel like I have no culture to call my own because we don't have a culture of our own, it's a mix of Spanish, and African, with almost no Indian in the mix, I mean sure, we have the blood mix, but not the culture. Most of it is Spanish, and since the American invasion, it's being warped and twisted into an American-like culture, and I for one, resent that a bit. I feel that America has this thing where they have to "civilize ie: Americanize" everyone they touch. American traditions are quickly taking over the old Spanish traditions and those took over African/Indian traditions. I don't feel that we have a culture that's deep with history and myths. Puerto Rican culture, as far as I see it only defines how we act as a People, it's more like a stereotype. I dunno, it's just that I see how Asian cultures go back thousands of years, and they are so rich and deep, and ours, well, isn't. Puerto Ricans call political rallies part of our culture, that's just messed up to me.
So, well I only know a few legends, but we don't really have any myths because the Taino Indian myths we could have had were erased... or known to only a few, we don't have any traditions from them, except for the names of places and some words. Hurricane comes from "huracan" which was also the name of the god of the weather, etc... but that's all I know. The Spanish did a good job in coverting all the Indians to Christianism and wiping out that ones that refused. That's another thing, most of our culture is deep with Christian beliefs and holidays, etc... but very few people actually know what it is to be a Christian.
Eh well, I'm taking up your space my mini rant, sorry.

His flowing... whatever it is, cape thing?... reminds me so much of how Maxfield Parrish draws! You should see some of his stuff if you can, I think you really would like it cause you draw fabric sort of like he does. This is really a superb drawing, morore

Wow. I don't know if I can leave you a good comment, I'm just blown away by this. I love it. For some reason what really catches my eye is his hair, the way it's not shaded while everything else is. I don't know why, but I adore that.

Suffice to say that I adore, and I wish I could buy a print. ;.;

Very good job, but I have a question for you...
If this was done for a Christian Youth Group....why the added Kanji on the paper lantern hanging from the cross?
I'm mainly asking, because (in a sense at least) that the addition of Kanji influence, means a bit of Japanese influence...which means, a bit of Buddhist influence....and I don't know about you...but many Christians I've known throughout the years have always called my faith in Buddhism a heresy to the Christian ideal....
Just struck me as being a bit quixotic is all.
Now, let me get back to the piece itself....I really do like this. The posture you rendered the subject in leads to a feeling of leadership and confidence to the subject. The cross-hatch and line shading is superb, you caught the lines and folds of his clothing, as well as the shadows on this body very well.
This overall is a very good piece...great job!
