Although this may be a somewhat disturbing scene to some. It's a scene that represents wild animals doing what they need to do to survive. Sometimes animals are given exaggerated reputations. In the case of the wolf their reputations seem to be overblown on both sides of the fence. Some are overly negative portraying them as bloodthirsty monsters that kill for fun and offer great threats to humans. Others in my opinion are overly-idealistic making wolves out to be these mystical creatures that prance through the forest that wouldn't harm another creature. To me wolves are just animals trying to make their way in the world. They kill to survive and in turn allow the survival of countless other animals that feed on their kills. They keep populations of other animals in check. They are an extremely important part of the ecosystem Keeping things in balance. Anyways, I just like this photo because I feel like it portrays a pretty realistic look at the wolf.

Great shot! I completely agree with your statement about wolves in the author's comments section. It seems like many people have gotten so used to living away from the wild that they have forgotten what needs to happen in order to keep the balance of nature stable. My sister came home one day with a story from work (she's a vet tech) about a woman's husband shooing a falcon away from a starling because the falcon attacked the starling.......so my sister told them that next time, they should just let the falcon have its lunch because: a.) they could've gotten hurt and b.) it's just the way nature has designed that type of bird. People amaze me at times....

Ya really, what's up with that whole obsession with wolves thing? I mean, sure, they are relatively interesting animals, but there are plenty of other fascinating creature out there.

Thanks. I love wolves and elk and everything about the rocky mountains, especially Colorado and Montana.

Your photography bring me back to it and captures it all so eloquently. Unfortunately, I live in Virginia now, so I only get back to Colorado every now and then. I get to go again in about a month.

I LOVE WOLVES. I could never say that enough. Or express how sad I am that their population is dwindling. Unlike you, many don't understand the are very important to the balance, and portray them as monsters and kill them. Some day I'm going to make a photographic series to raise awareness about the cliff edge we have pushed them to, as well as other endangered species.
Wonderful capture! (And animals eating other animals is all part of the cycle, so I wouldn't worry to much about this being disturbing.)
