Because James at least grew out of his behaviour and became a decent person. Snape, on the other hand, was never a saint.

No he didn't. Did James ever say sorry to Snape. He was nice to the people who he likes. That's all. It is not a decent person for me. Also James never had to make a choice. He grow up in a nice environment who taught him the right thing. He never wanted to be a death eater or power hungry to begin with (he never needed power or protection like Snape did anyway). So life was easy for him. He never made a choice for Lily either. Just was being a little bit more careful, and did not fight with Snape in front of Lily. By the way I'm not saying he should wait to be hexed by Severus. But bullying and 4 to one no less, to a kid without a reason and having joy for it is just disgusting. He was never a decent person, he was just not a horrible maniac with homicidal tendencies.

No, no he wasn't a homocidal man. If anything, that was Severus. He even invented the 'Sectumsempra' curse to KILL James. And James DID grow out of his bad behaviour and he DID become a decent human being. Severus on the other hand still held a childhood grudge, joined the Death Eaters, wanted to convince Voldemort to let Harry and James die so that he could have Liliy for himself, treated all of his non-Slyhtherin students like shit and got Remus fired over a stupid grudge. James was a bully, yes but at least he changed his ways. Severus, however, became a horrible person, even though he did help Dumbledore.

Look. James had no reason to hold a grudge against Snape. He had a decent environment. If Snape had that, I bet he wouldn't be a vile person like James was. Snape joined eat eaters. Why? As a lonely, unwanted, never even once in a life loved kid, he wanted to belong somewhere. He wanted to be powerful. Because as he learned only powerful big bullies were respected, and he wanted to be respected. How can you blame him? Dark Lord was killing people. He should have known better. As a teenager he didn't. And why would he? Those people were dying to humiliate him. Why would he care for them? With Lily's life in danger, he understood what he did was wrong. And he went and ask Voldemort to not to kill Lily and apparently Voldemort agreed (later he still killed her but we knew that he attempted to keep Lily alive.) He couldn't ask Lord Voldemort to spare James or Harry, right? It would be stupid. He took the promise from the man. But what he did later? He went to Dumbledore, a man who he thought would kill him without listening. But he went anyway, just to warn him. At that time Potters were alive. And with the information Snape gave them they could be that way (but then Pettigrew happened.) How could you say he Attempted to keep only Lily alive, just to be with her? Snape is no fool. He went to Dumbledore and he knew that Dumbledore would want to keep all of them alive. He just explained himself to Dumbledore that he loved Lily. So Dumbledore knew that it was no trick of a death eater. And yes Dumbledore said that he was disgusted by him. Eh he was maybe, but we also know that what he said to Snape after Lily died. Harry had his mother's eyes la bla. He was manipulating the man clearly. Just like in that "disgusted by you" behaviour. Snape did what was difficult. James made no hard choices. That spoilt brat had an easy but short life. Eh maybe if he reincarnate again, he won't be such a bastard and be a nice person. I have no sorrows for him. And good bye. Snape was no horrible. He was a pained, disturbed, unhappy man. He didn't know better. It is no better how old is he. The world gave nothing to him, but he saved it end of the day. I wouldn't if I were him. I would be a bitter asshole and went somewhere and live without caring those bastards and what happened to them. But we know that Snape was even trying to save Lupin, LUPIN when polyjuice flying scene. He didn't have to, nobody was expecting him to do so. But he did anyway. I hate people like James. Yes he was not a murderer. So what? I am not a murderer either. That is not being decent. Your decent description is low. Good bye. Hope we never see each other.

I'm not making excuses for James. I know the despicable things he did to Snape but I don't pretend Snape is some "innocent victim" because he's not. And I neve once said you had to like James.

I did not say he was an innocent victim, though he was a victim who could never recover later. And I know his mental issues not only because of James. It was deeper than that. But Potter was the last drop apparently. I cannot like someone like James. I know he was not a heartless beast. But this is the issue, right? And as much as I know and do not appreciate the bad deeds of Severus, I can understand him, and forgive him like Harry did. But could not forgive James. And do not have to either. You don't like Snape? Good. Then don't like. Just leave me alone.
