Description So, in addition to teaching myself to sew, I'm also exploring needle felting as a new means of creating sculptures. It's extremely fun!

Totoro is one of my favorite characters from one of my favorite film makers, Miyazaki Hayao. Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki have created some truly wonderful films that inspire me and jump-start my imagination.

This guy is made out of needle-felted wool roving and stands about 4" tall. He stands on his own, thanks to his tail, and he was extremely fun to make.

It was?! Oh, gosh, that's terrifying and exciting, all at once. I still can't believe Peter de Seve was on the jury this year and he looked at our stuff!!! I hope we both made it in.

Wow, that's truly incredible, and overwhelming. It's also pretty awesome that they are still getting more submissions every year, even in this rather difficult time. It's great that artists still want to submit work and pay the entry fees even in this crappy economy.

I definitely don't envy the jurors--that's a ton of stuff to look at. Here's hoping they see both of our pieces with fresh eyes and that both stand out from the crowd, in a good way.

Yeah, it's always a little nerve racking...especially when they show the video panning all the tables with the entries...
Puts it in perspective...yikes!
