I have a complicated headcanon about recovering of Maedhros in Mithrim. I think he had lot of nightmares about his suffering, but there was always Fingon to soothe him.
To avoid misunderstanding - I do not ship them. It just seems to me that Maedhros would appreciate some touches after such a long loneliness... and also if it was so bad with him, just speaking to him would have no effect.
