The glaze works well with the form. I love the use of negative space, it gives the shape a sense of balance. Well done.

This is gorgeous... imagine it lit on a gallery pedestal.

I agree with you about the glaze, but don't give up on it. The form is great! I think some oranges airbrushed across the surface could liven it up a little. What type of clay did you use?

I usually build up the front on a board and then keeping it kind of leather hard I turn it over onto a pillow and working in my lap I build up the back, keeping the front well covered in plastic the whole time and occasionally spraying it down when it starts to dry too much. The back side is usually as intricate as the front actually- I try to give them the feel of a cohesive object that makes some sort of visual and structural sense. Don't always believe what they tell you about over-dry leatherhard clay not being able to be worked on anymore. I usually roll a bunch of slabs at the beginning and continue to work from them through the whole process- so that means I'm adding chunks and strips of leatherhard clay to already dry-ish clay but I just make sure I really thoroughly wet and blend the parts that connect if that makes sense. None of them get fired very high actually so perhaps that keeps them from warping too much but I hardly ever have a crack anywhere and even if I do it is so heavy and solid that they stay together beautifully. I also incorporate a key hole or screw sized holes in the back design so that the ability to hang it seems a natural part of the object. Thats tricky! lol. I work on these slowly for several months really- they kind of just grow and if you just let the clay do what it seems to want to do it somehow seems to work out in the end. Do what comes naturally to you I guess. Thanks for asking and stopping in. Cheers!
