A: I think the creature is supposed to be a giant pliosaur rather than a mosasaur.
B: When I saw this scene in the "Jurassic World" trailer I was stuck by this thought.
Spielberg in his hubris to make a visual pun about his own "Jaws" movie is ignoring the fact that shark populations around the world are being threatened by over fishing.Β Killing a great white sharkΒ or what is essentially a circus stunt sends the wrong message regarding animal conservation.Β

The creature is confirmed to be a Mosasaurus.

Hey, if we have GMO cloned dinos to show off, they can also have some cloned GMO prehistoric sharks for treats too, perhaps?

Who's to say that isn't a prehistoric shark already?

This is true, since sharks really haven't evolved much since the Age of Dinosaurs.

Thats WAY to big for any know mosasaur. If that great white is of an average 12 to 16 feet in length that behemoth is no longer a dinosaur but is now a kaiju.

If it's a BBC paleo-production immediately assume half of what you hear is outright wrong and half of the rest is pure speculation.

Not to be mean or anything but you just took this from the trailer? It looks like a screenshot. Should probably not put it under digital art and more like fanart or something so it doesn't look like you're taking the credit.Β

Did you know the Jurassic World mosasaur is between 33 and 48 meters long? :3
That is around three times as long as a real Mosasaurus. That sardine it's eating is a fully grown Great White Shark.

randomdinos In reply to Traheripteryx [2014-12-03 01:03:06 +0000 UTC]
Actually, the guy who did the estimatives for the Doctor Who dinosaur estimated 63.5m. But he exagerrated a lot, and doing the same estimatives he did without the exagerations we get around 33m.
So the average is 48m, but I added the lower edge as well to not get people freaking out about the higher edge xD
