Description

UPDATE September 29th, 2019: Alys' first BNHA design was never my favorite but because I had a feeling I wouldn't be doing much with her in the BNHA universe, the old design worked well enough. But as time went on by, Alys became somewhat more developed and I toyed with the thought of giving her a redesign. I just simply never had the time. When I was commissioned to draw BNHA Alys with another BNHA OC, I knew I didn't want to draw Alys in her old design so I finally took a moment to design the new look.

So this is the updated character sheet with the new hero suit and a casual look. The new hero look was inspired by Wakfu Alys' shield maiden concept, the same concept her hero name Gate Maiden comes from. I removed the hooded raincoat design because it was hell to draw and simply didn't look good with the old leotard. The old character sheet can be found here: Alys' old character sheet .

And the inevitable happened! I recreated my main Wakfu OC Alys to be a Boku No/My Hero Academia character. Don't worry, though! BNHA Alys is more of a side character while Wakfu Alys is still my main thing. This was a personal challenge to see if I could create a non-Wakfu version of my muse.

Some behind-the-scenes info:

For her looks, I was inspired by her Wakfu daily and Season 3 outfits, her Overwatch/Symmetra design and her Wakfu Modern Day look . I still love long bare legs, shoulders and back so I kept those little trademarks in her hero suit design. And let's not forget her iconic pin!
For her Quirk, I was of course inspired by Eliatropes but I made some tweaks to try and make it less Wakfu/Eliatrope in nature by removing the Dofus, Wakfu wings and dragon aspect, changing the design of the portals and how they function, along with how she summons her shield and weapon.
Her hero name was a bit tricky but after creating a list, my boyfriend chose Gate Maiden for me. The name is based on gateways (portals) and Alys being a "shield maiden" in Wakfu. Her surname is a homage to one of my most favorite game shows I used to watch as a kid, Fort Boyard.

Her hero suit consists out of a dark blue high collared leotard and flexible and light but protective armor which cover her torso, lower arms and legs. She wears a semi-transparent scarf which can be pulled over her head like an improvised hood in case it rains, along with two long ribbons and a "butt cloak" made of the same material. When not on duty, her casual clothes are mostly dresses, skirts and blouses with a neck scarf. If the occasion calls for it, she'll wear a hat fitting with her outfit.

Personality:
Rather mature, Alys is a hardworking woman who is devoted to her job(s). She's kind, generous, empathetic and sympathetic and has a weak spot for children and anything small and adorable. She loves being a teacher and makes time for her students whenever they require help. She often spends the after hours at school to assist other teachers, students with their chores or help out in the library. Alys is a good listener and mostly puts others before herself. She's a bit of a hopeless romantic and lays a lot of value in love, chivalry, and romance.

During battle, she is collected and unwavering but won't resort to using violence unless needed. She is most active in search and rescue operations due to the usefulness of her Quirk and her caring nature, but helps out in other types of situations when required or able.

Like a true workaholic, she tends to forget to take breaks or take care of herself while she drowns herself in hero or teacher work. On top of that, she is a worrywart and often gets lost in overthinking situations, becoming fidgety and distracted in the process. Though a good listener and there for others, she doesn't quickly talk about her own personal problems, preferring to keep up appearances to not have people worry about her or look bad or weak in the eyes of others. Due to this, she has trouble finding proper ways to vent and instead takes on more workload to forget or get through something.

Quirk: Portals

Description: Alys can tear rifts through the fabrics of time and space with her mind and hands alike to create portals of various sizes. The portals usually come in pairs and are connected with one and another, creating gateways she or others can move through. The smaller a portal, the more pairs she can create and the longer the distance between them can be. The distance between a standard pair of portals big enough to let a grown human through is 250 meters (two football fields). The portals go both ways, acting as entry and exit points as long as they are connected.

Merging two portals will create an eruption of energy which Alys can use as an offensive, like a shot or a beam of energy. To create a barrage, she can summon up to ten pairs of small portals (the size of her hand) at a time and merge them to create a hail of shots.
Another offensive and defensive the portals have to offer are a shield and lance (or a spear for more mobility) materialized from the energy of the portal she summons the weapons from. This depletes the portal and also drains a part of her stamina as she needs to keep the shield and weapon in their materialized form.

Creating portals and weapons comes with a prize; tearing the rifts drains her, which is why she can only make a certain amount of portals a day. The same goes for the duration she keeps the portals open. She'll begin bleeding from her nose and grow incredibly fatigued if she exceeds the time and energy limit, to the point of losing consciousness and needing medical care.
A detained villain kept inside a portal needs to be removed preferably sooner than later, as Alys needs to keep the (mental) link with the sealed portal active to not lose the detained in the void.
It is also difficult to find a proper anchor for the second portal when she doesn't know the area or doesn't have a clear view of the surroundings, which can result on the second portal being obstructed. If this happens, one cannot enter the first portal as it will be blocked.

Strengths:
+ Great mobility.
+ Able to save lives quickly.
+ Can do melee and long-ranged attacks.
+ Can transport wares or people safely and efficiently.
+ Villains can get trapped inside a portal.
Weaknesses:
- Alys needs to be near the first created portal of a pair to keep it linked with its sister portal. The max distance is ten meters.
- Any active portal will close if Alys loses consciousness.
- The portals or weapons drain her stamina rapidly and is very situational.
- Civilians can get lost within a portal if the distance between the portals is too far. Luckily, this is a rare occurrence.
- Requires quick thinking and reflexes, good timing and a good understanding of the surroundings, which can prove difficult in hazardous situations.
- Cannot be used underwater.
- Anyone detained or anything kept within a portal cannot stay inside for too long as is draining and exhausting to keep the link with the portal active, no matter if the portal is sealed.
- The portals' efficiency decreases when Alys is unfocused, tired or panicked.

Background and History
It is a running joke in Alys' family that she teleported out of her mother's womb during delivery, but this is of course not true. Her Quirk developed when she was almost a year old and just started to walk, often disappearing and reappearing randomly and driving her parents and older siblings up the walls while trying to find her. Her family is large and busy. Other than two loving parents and still living grandparents, Alys has three older siblings and two younger ones, all with their own Quirks. Her large family made her who she is; a very loving person with a lot of patience. Family and bonds mean the world to her.

Alys attended one of the more renowned hero schools in Paris to follow in her older brothers' footsteps, though wasn't certain of what to do with her future. After graduating from the hero course and earning a bachelor's degree in teaching, she was unable to find a promising teaching position and therefore joined a hero agency as a sidekick. It didn't take long before she caught wind of the growing hero activity in Japan and began toying with the idea to experience it for herself. It seemed exciting. She chose home over intrigue for a long time but was unable to shake off the thought to migrate to Japan and perhaps find a future there. After a deep slump in trying to find her place in life, she gave into the thought and, with her family's support, took the plunge.

It was a rough start. She needed to learn the language first, work side jobs and find an affordable place to stay in order to gain some standing with the local heroes and agencies. It took a few years of hard work but she eventually was accepted by a hero agency in Osaka and started to plant her roots while taking evening courses to polish up her teacher's degree. Not wanting to be a full-time sidekick for the remainder of her career, Alys turned her attention to Musutafu and applied to U.A. high school as a Social Studies teacher. She believed U.A. would be a good stepping stone to progress further and was given the position after sending in several applications.

She currently lives in Musutafu in a small apartment, spending a lot of her time on the U.A. grounds where she teaches or assists in the hero courses. When not at school, or during emergencies, Alys is doing her job as a pro hero, mostly aiding in rescue missions, patrolling or helping with the apprehending of a villain.

Relationships
Family

Alys' family is enormous and tightly knit, consisting of both parents, grandparents, six children and extended family. The hero influence mostly comes from her grandparents while her parents are simple and easy going civilians who wanted nothing more than to raise a family. Alys' two older brothers decided to follow in their grandparents' footsteps, along with a younger sister and brother, and do local hero work or are still attending school.

The family Quirks are related to teleportation, telepathy and matter manipulation.
Friends

Nezu: Alys has many casual chats and walks with Nezu between and after classes, though often it is student or hero related rather than random everyday topics. That said, they get along well and enjoy tea together while able to talk about more personal topics, though she has to admit that Nezu is a little odd and unnerving to work with at times.

Nemuri Kayama (Midnight): Ah, the power and splendor of youth. It's something Nemuri and Alys quickly bonded over as they share a common interest in the students' welfare and how they continue to grow, often impressed by what the students are capable of, especially when they show excellent sportsmanship and chivalry towards their peers or elders. Though Alys is not as flirtatious as Nemuri and less sexual, both have a string of admirers and they often gossip or simply talk about their experiences and thoughts about them. The fact they are close to each other's age also helps with them getting along.

Thirteen: Alys and Thirteen often do collab classes and training sessions together and have worked as a team on several search and rescue missions. They can rely on each other and are often in sync, their passion for life and to uphold it keeping their friendship strong.

Kurogiri: Excelling at creating warp gates/portals and greatly outmatching Alys's own Quirk, he is an enemy she is incredibly weary off, no matter her admiration and respect for his level of skill.

Fears: Failure and rejection, losing a civilian or an innocent live to the void of the portals.

Trivia
It took Alys several years to learn Japanese. Although she studied it when in France, she took on a full-time course after she moved to Japan.
Alys' name is pronounced ah-lease. It's the French pronunciation of the name Alice.
She's single but surely not ignored as she has an array of admirers. She has yet to find The One, though and she's pretty picky about it.
She smells like peaches.
It is no lie that she gained a bit of interest due to being a somewhat "exotic" looking foreigner but most of what she accomplished was through hard work.
She has a very faint French accent. She tried hard to be rid of it to be better understood while teaching.
She gets along with most of the U.A. staff. She is on friends terms with Nezu, Nemuri (Midnight) and Thirteen.
She hopes to be a homeroom teacher someday and have her own class to look after.
Sometimes some French slips through the cracks while she's talking.
Her last name is a homage to the game show Fort Boyard.
Her materialized shield and lance are inspired by her original "Wakfu" weapons.
