Description Tagua Nut & Baltic Amber
1 3/4" long, 1 1/2" wide, 1" tall.

My most recent tactile sculpture, Obscura was inspired by the textures I used on Metamorphosis, combined with the natural shape of the Tagua Nut itself.

This is the perfect size for a "worry stone" type of tactile sculpture, and it's shape really hugs your fingers. The combination of textures is very pleasing and soothing to touch; the hand polished curves of the top side contrasting gently with the almost stone-like roughness of the inside are almost mesmerizing. Visually, one of the coolest features is the way it interacts with light. As you can see in the photos below, Tagua Nut is slightly translucent when carved thin enough, which makes it fun to look at in sunlight. This is not just art to look at, it's art to touch and experience personally.

More photos, because there is no way to show all of the details in one shot:

This is the first time I've tried Tagua Nut, and I found that it is fun to carve, medium hard, takes excellent detail, and has almost no grain. Making your own amber cabochons because you didn't have any the right size is not fun, and I don't really recommend doing it, especially when working at around 4 to 6mm. It worked here though, so I'll probably do it again in the future, even if it is a pain and sometimes results in having to chase them when they slip out of your grip during polishing.

This is for sale, $80, + shipping, via Paypal or Money Order.
I can do payment plans, just note me for info.

Tagua nut also feels amazing in the hand. I tried it on a whim after hearing good stuff about it and have decided I like it much better than I thought I would.

Absolutely beautiful! You did a great job!
Definitely a piece that you want to pick up and hold for yourself.

Yay! Now if only there was a way to photograph this thing so I could show it all in one pic.
Or attach a "touch" file for download.

Alas, some things are not appreciable in one photo, and some not even with many. And the tactile, auditory, and olfactory properties can only be inferred. Which is why I prefer to sell my stuff in person. Though, even then, some people are reluctant to pick up pieces and handle them.

Personally, I have gotten pretty good at tactile inference.

Maybe we'll eventually manage neural interface, and hold things virtually. The favorites system is acting up again and didn't register yours on this piece. I so hate it when it loses my favs too, so I thought you might want to know.

Neural interfacing; that would be an interesting time, indeed. Anyways, I haven't favorited this piece... yet. Normally I only have one piece by any particular artist in my favorites (and I don't favorite pieces for mere astounding competence, they have to appeal to me emotionally). There are some exceptions, but I try to grit my teeth and practice restraint, even when doing so becomes difficult.

I just fav everything I like. Almost nobody looks at my favs, so I use them as an inspiration database that I can dip into when I need a boost. The chaos of things there is like waves of awesome to bathe my brain in. But for every system there are many different paths.

For me, Favorites is more like a collection of doorways.

You do seem to be having great fun and developing your art at a rapid rate.

I'm working on it. Having things to sell helps keep the lights on so I can keep working on your crown.

Indeed so, it seems we have this issue with food, power, water, little minor things.

Such petty things. And sleep, that is a stumbling block to creation too...

Fantastic work on this I really like the flowing lines and I can see it would be really handy to loop your index finger in there and rub away with your thumb

I've been having to work at it to keep my hands off of it since I finished it. So glad you like it!
