Description In days of old men feared wolves at their doorsteps, but now more than ever those same breed of monsters lurk among them. Some far more fearsome than others.

It is well established the danger the lycanthrope - common werewolf - poses to mortal, mundane persons, but it is rarer yet to acquire information about the more fringe zoanthropes. While understood in the same genre as a whole, their individual qualities are not extensively documented; most European and American lore dedicated largely only to a select few. In reality, they are quite diverse, with some strains being more exotic than others in their expression and impact upon their natural or afflicted subjects.

The weretiger, the rarest of the (non-hybrid) ailuranthropes, is iconic among the feline strands, in that it has the greatest potential swing and influence over the infected person; even natural weretigers, born into their heritage (which is indeed the most common source of their numbers, in contrast to afflicted) cannot readily resist these supernatural psychological influences. Prone to bouts of unmatched ferocity, weretigers will hunt and kill whatever it is that has driven them to anger; although in contrast to the lycanthrope, their killing sprees are considered "just vengeance", but one should note collateral damage and civilian casualty are common place.

This burning rage is remarkable in that the weretiger behaves with a sense of hunting clarity; even those without any survival skills, as common among most the human populace, exhibit unmatched predatory capability. However, once engaged, there are typically only two outcomes for a weretiger; either the weretiger succeeds in carrying out its wrath, or it is killed in the process... most often dying of some injury after the incident rather than during.

Keeping with tradition, most weretiger rages are brought about by severe injury or mental duress. Uniquely, such bloody frenzies are not lunar-bound as seen with the common lycanthrope; a full moon is not the start of a weretiger's killing spree as it is most often with a werewolf. Contrarily, most full moons have few instances of weretiger attacks.

A joint commission of Asher Tybalt by the fantastic duo of Felfi and RogueLiger. It is rare to see joint commissions work out quite this well, but this piece is a paragon of what two in-tune artists can accomplish with one another.

So what does Asher look like as a human?

ArgentFatalis In reply to avancna [2015-09-29 12:00:03 +0000 UTC]

Asher Tybalt is a natural weretiger, given this, his human form is taller than the norm for men - around six feet, four inches - and more robust in terms of weight and athleticism. Although of Caucasian decent, his line has visible notes of some previous Asianic lineage, varying from the fairness of skin, to the darkness of his short, close kept brown nearly black hair. His eyes are bright and attentive and tend toward the amber spectrum, with his expressions being very clear to even a casual observer - at times being almost emphasized. His generalized physical appearance and wellness bears minimal marring, with previous scars being characteristically reduced. As a young man, he exhibits vibrant muscular qualities of his type, but is only generally well fit.

I hope this presents a better idea for you of his character, both human and weretiger.

The art is quite impressive, but I'm actually more interested in the written premise behind it.  Sounds like a setting that could have some epic urban fantasy stories.

The majority of written lore about this story is derivative by and large, but is more my generalizing and streamlining of it.

Other pieces with this character, and that of Katie Cosner, reveal more about the general feeling and presence it has on the pseudoscience, where this is all a sort of studied fact.

I would imagine that is one of many reactions one would have to witnessing a weretiger.

a weretiger?

ArgentFatalis In reply to yiffo2 [2015-08-16 02:29:45 +0000 UTC]

Akin to the far more commonly known werewolf, or lycanthrope, a weretiger is a form of ailuranthrope that's a lot more rare in fiction and mythology.

Bloody Roar did inspire a fair amount of aspects for my zoanthrope characters, that much is true.

Fortunately, even hunting weretigers tend to already have dedicated targets. That said, I wouldn't want to make myself a target of opportunity either.
