Haha oh yeah, that's true! Although I have less scientific motivations, I'm sure XP

this is so cool! I like magpies, although I've been swooped a few times XD -not fun, let me tell you. But this animation is just so smooth and finished, I love it!

Swooped? Oh, you're Australian? I heard about the swooping season, so freaky. I couldn't even imagine having to watch out for birds.
The magpies we have here, black billed magpies, corvids, are actually super shy. The ones in the city are okay but the others fly at the slightest disturbance. You can barely get close, a shame, truly.

this is so incredibly amazing. I already thought the previous one was amazing, but this one is just beautiful. I think you've done amazing with the frames there is not a single part that seems to be glitchy. I also think you've done great with the depth of the front wing and the wing on the background, you can clearly mention which one is front and which one is back. The background is amazing it really seems like a lightsource on it's own, you made the ligthest part really the lightest and that's something to be proud off.

Thank you so much ^^ Funny that it's so specifically the background you admire, while that was by far the easiest part of it all. Also the only not-moving part.
Hey but, just a question. I'm experimenting a bit with run-cycles lately and since I still own you a request, would you maybe like having an animated icon?
Since you don't animate yourself. Although I can also imagine that you wouldn't want to go around wearing someone else's artwork.

Nah it doesn't really matter, you barely see the eyes in the small version anyways.

It looks cool.
Maybe if the tail didn't move forward so much and it moved back a little more.

Hm, that's kind of hard XD some people think the tail is all right, some say it should be stiffer to make it realistic, and now you say it should be more flowy.
Haha, that's what's so terrible about animating, I suppose. Everyone can tell that there's something wrong, but how to fix it? No one's sure.
I think I'll give more flowy a try though, I definitely do like what that looks like Thanks

I see the others have given you a palette of choices. That's kind.
Much will depend on what do you seek. Magpies do have stiff tails, so if they waved their tails in the nature, the tails wouldn't move a lot (I admit I didn't think of this until you replied). Even so, animations often skew much of the rules of realism in order to look better. Just think of any of the popular 2D animation shows, and you'd be hard-pressed to find complete realism.
Everything will always have "something wrong", and when you'll fix it, it becomes "worse" for the other one. Sometimes there are flaws which could be made better for everyone, but sometimes suggestions are more like opinions. Thus why developing an unique style you like is important, and not to listen to everyone.
Then of course, telling you how to fix something is much harder, as it requires some more skill. And even so, they may not always be right, so it's important to be critical while respectful. I suppose you could try to ask them for further clarification, like "what should I do to fix it in the way you mentioned"? Perhaps they'd be able to answer, and you'd get something practical.
I think the v.2 is better. Fast birds are awesome

Yeah, I suppose real magpies indeed don't wag their tail like that. That might be a bit of dragon influence from my side, heh.
hm, but I don't like the look of non-moving parts in animations, and after all, this is art.
I wonder if asking for further clarification is going to help. For as far as I know non of my current watchers frequently animates (besides the occasional pixel art). Could just be me though.

I believe your influences make sure you are drawing in the style you like to draw. So you are nevertheless aiming for the "correct direction", they way you want.
Ah, I see your point. Likely your thoughts are correct, as someone who has experience in animating (even just a little bit) is better able to instruct you over things in animation you do not yet know.

It could be just me, but the animation of your old icon looks much more smooth. I do love magpies though. xD
