I drew this photo from the cover of the Kevin Aucoin book "Making Faces"

I used only a mechanical pencil in this drawing.

This drawing is incomplete, but complete enough for me to keep it out of the scrap heap for now. The only thing left to complete is the lips.

I am obsessed with drawing eyes. I really was excited to draw this photo when I saw it because the eyes were so amazingly detailed I was eager to take on the challenge armed only with my mechanical pencil. I did my best to give the eyes their 3D depth into the iris, but also still give it the outward invisible 3D dome exterior to the eye with just the right "reflection" on the moist surface. It was fun trying to show the reflection of the eyelashes in that reflection too.

I am VERY satisfied with these eyes.
