Been a long time since i posted, but i'm kinda stuck here...i really want to add some atmospherics to this, but i am at a loss of how to....knowwhatimean?so i am open to ideas, and suggestions, and examples! HELP!!!
i do want dust from the rotor and in the background, but how????

Thanks! I took the original drone and added the larger gun and rocket pods and removed the "lasers"....looks beefy! I'll have to post an image of the drone itself tonight..

I'm afraid I cannot assist in the area of dust and atmosphere (I'd use brushes and likely do a poor job of it), but I did want to say that this looks great either way.

from your current state:
a) render the kid woman street and car as a separate layer....or just delete everything else (from all those mentioned) and re render...
b) bring the new render in photoshop place it above this image
c) between them create a new layer into screen mode...
d) use the fog or smoke brushes from ron's brushes, or even a soft round brush.... (a wacom would help a lot)
e) use a color that you want in atmosphere (because of the blue ambient a nice desaturated blue would do) and start paint with the opacity very low....(if you don't have a wacom)

LOL!! That's exactly what I was thinking!! I was going to go that way, but I think it's the technique that is lacking. I want the "Oh cool!! Look at the dust!" response and not the "Oh wow! That's a lot of Ron's Brushes!" response(which is what I'd get since my skill with then need some work...CS6 here I come!)!
I have the brushes, I just need to figure out the best use for them...

Morning! I have been looking for some reference images (the war has been great for that, at least) and what i am mostly seeing was just huge enveloping clouds of dust. Not to say this isn't all bad, but it's not exactly what I was wanting...I'd love to get a cross between an anime look and reality...and a unicorn that will take me over the Sherbet Rainbow to the Land of Dreams.....

Maybe modern war movies could be much more useful than pics,at least you can paused the scene that you are interested!If that movie is HD,paused scene still could be looks clearly
