Excuse me, but I don't need to care about your country's laws when I don't live there... I don't know why you idiots keep saying that, because it simply isn't true.

You do when you use websites that are governed by laws of the United States. When you made an account here you agreed to follow their rules based on current copyright laws.Β Don't like it? Deactivate your account on deviantART and take your attitude elsewhere.Β

So I'm supposed to follow their laws to protect the admin's asses even though I live somewhere else?

If you feel as though you're not obligated to follow the rules of dA and US copyright laws you're more than welcome to leave deviantART. I fail to see how not stealing is an inconvenience to you. Outside of the FAQs there are compilations here on dA of information regarding copyrightΒ protectart.deviantart.com/jourβ¦
It's cut and dried, not up for debate, or opinion. If you commit a crime in a country that is not your home you are still subject to punishment regardless of citizenship. Your logic is asinine.Β

It isn't an issue for me. I'm not going to either way. I just don't like laws from countries I've avoided being forced on me. And I don't think it's possible to be sued for copyright infringement according to american law if I don't actually live there.

It is possible regardless of whether you agree or not. If you break a law in a country that is not your own anywhere in the world you are subject to whatever consequences exist in that jurisdiction. I have no idea why you're so upset about something so trivial. If it is that annoying to you to not be a douche when it comes to honoring copyright law you should not be on deviantART or anywhere near creative material. Your reasoning behind "not liking it" is even more juvenile than your coming here and chewing me out for something that is completely beyond my control. If you do not like it, by all means leave.Β

Very insightful article. I was not aware of my rights as an artist, especially the 70 years after death XD. Now i understand why some artists only became 'popular' decades after deceased.
As for the watermark bit, yes, it hurts to ruin your hard work with a nasty mark on it. However it hurts more to find your work reposted by a 100 folk, in which half claim to own it because they edited it. Because of this, I lost my fear of watermarking and now stamp my mark all over the characters drawn XD

I've found out that someone very 'internet famous' had been tracing and thieving characters should I watermark my art from now own.
I'm getting awfully skittish and I feel vulnerable.

if your image file is too small, it cannot be watermarked using dA's watermark, but that doesn't mean that you can't make your own ^ ^

I have a few extra water mark tips The will all make it a little bit harder for someone to try and remove it.
- Make it a slightly different colour. for example, tone in a little blue, red, or green.
- Slightly distort the watermark. Only a little, so much that nobody will notice.
- Add 3 watermarks to each image: One people are meant to notice meaning, "this is mine", a second large but very transparent one which will only be found if you look very closely. This should cover a large area of the image. And a third small but visible one, which will only be found if you look for it, but is obviously there. That way, if someone removes the first one, you still have two more points of proof.
- Don't just make it transparent, use something like Hard Light, Soft Light, Grain Merge, etc.. This will just add that slight bit of hardness to convincingly remove
