I'm proud to be part of the Topo Copy Expo - Risografia project, organised by El Topo and Sam Scarpulla, that opened the DOK area in Gent. A fantastic party place in the docklands where all kinds of artists go wild in empty factory buildings and even a newly built arena.They asked a bunch of talented people ( amongst them Ephameron, Jan Van Der Veken, Zosen, Thierry Jaspart, Mark Goss, .. ) to make a 2 color-print and this is my addition to the risograph series. It's for sale and limited to a series of 100 signed prints.
Jangojim is my pseudonym as an artist.

thx ! no actually they look a bit washed out, which makes them give some sort of vintage feel. mainly the part why I love them so much.

Haha, I had to do it on a quick turn around so I basically just pulled out one of my stock colour schemes. I had some idea he was pretty big, I noticed he had some connection to that Ever Meulen who you turned me on to. I'd really like to get into and learn more about that style, I really don't seem much said about it at all.

and yeah, he is connnected to Ever Meulen through the same style he uses. He might have been a pupil of him, not sure. But here they already call Jan Van der Veken the new Ever Meulen, which is a huge compliment. Jan is, I think, the first Belgian to have illustrated the cover of The New Yorker. [link]

yep ! and you still have time. He was 34 when he first could design for the new yorker. If you can pull it off before that age I'll send you a cake with your design on it
and I'm pretty sure you are gonna do a new yorker one day. Your style fits the cover of the new yorker perfectly. Especially if you have your sights set on that. Keep making awesome stuff and it will happen

I don't know about t shirts, I don't really know how to go about getting them made in a way that I'd make any money from, but I guess it's something that will happen.

well, I don't know about shirts either, but I'd like to get into that world. moneymaking is not instantly I think, unless you sign a deal with urban outfitters or some major company that prints supercheaply in china. But I'm not sure that feels rewarding. a friend of mine ordered 60 shirts, sold them to friends and people he met on parties. those shirts paid his holidays ! if you can sell 60 shirts and have them printed cheaply so you can make 10 euros of profit you have 600 euros. you can buy some really really nice comics with that

Yeah I'm seeing the logic. I think I'll definitely do that at some point. I actually just did a t shirt design for Weezer which was like a dream job, had specific guidelines though so I dunno if it's the best thing I could have done for it. Thing is I'd want to make t shirts that I'd actually like wearing and I like pretty plain t shirts these days.

dude, Weezer ! that's pretty awesome. guidelines are not always too fun indeed, but I think it's part of our job to do the best we can, compromise.
and I have to say, I prefer plain t-shirts too more and more. only if the print is really really awesome I wear shirts with a print

I don't think I've seen more than three artists in a room at a time in over a year.... Most of the time I am the only artist in the entie building. A slew of artists plus alcohol sounds like absolute heaven to me right now.

I realize I'm spoiled. Antwerp is a vibrant place and I see many artists regularly. I also feel that it inspires me to work with others. But maybe, you could do something collab wise with a webcam ? draw live with others over the web

you can totally be an artistic photographer ! or in any other way you can be artistic. don't feel too limited, it's by being creative with the things you have that you find your own style
